Ok, so you know how I wrote in the first blog posting that I was very into working out and pushing myself to the limit Well, here's my first attempt at this. I'm calling it the "Ultimate Fitness Challenges."
My first challenge will be to tackle the workout outlined in the book Spartan Warrior Workout, which was loosely based off of the workout routine that the actors from the movie 300 did to get into such fantastic shape.
Dang he's ripped!
Here’s the deal: every day for the next 30 days I have to do strength training which is designed to prepare you for The 300 Workout, an optional session for the actors and crew. It was a brutal workout, meant to be done as fast as possible for time.
Here’s the breakdown of the Workout that I will do on day 14 and day 30:
25 pull ups
50 deadlifts at 135 pounds
50 Pushups
50 box jumps on a 24-inch box
50 floor wipers at 135 pounds
50 clean and presses with a 35 pound kettlebell (25 reps on each side)
25 pull ups
If you did the math correctly, you counted 300 total repetitions. Again, this is a really brutal and advanced workout. Only about half of the people who trained took the test. Andrew Pleavin, who played Daxos, completed the workout in 18 minutes, 11 seconds, and was the only actor who participated in the test.
My goal? To beat that time.
Here’s how this is going to work:
-Each day I will post the workout from the book that I will be doing, as well as the weight I used (if applicable). I will also post my feelings on how the workout went.
-Each Monday I will also post my measurements, my weight and body fat percentage as well as a photo of my body and how it may (or may not) change.
-Each Sunday I will post a short video about how the week went, my thoughts on it, and what was the easiest and the most difficult.
-I am also going to ask someone to take photos of me during various workouts to give you an idea of what I’m working with.
But that’s not all I’m going to do for this workout. I'm gonna do extra stuff!
-For some exercises, I will modify them based on the equipment I have available as well as taking a classic exercise (such as a pushup) and making it harder. Those exercises will be marked with a triple star and italicized.
-I am also going to be doing additional work based on what I feel I need, such as bodyweight exercises, core work, running, and yoga/recovery techniques.
-I will also being doing a daily Reiki session on myself as well to help speed up recovery as well as prevent injury and help build muscle and burn fat.
I have never attempted something like this before; this workout is going to bring me to a whole new level of pain and rewards. It will be tough and I am nervous, but if you want to improve yourself, you have to be willing to look fear in the eye, confront it, and then make it step aside.
If you have any comments, questions about the exercise program, or just want to send words of encouragement, feel free to email me at jordanmitchelllove@gmail.com I welcome any and all who are interested.
Wish me luck.
